LUCKNOW:  Beleaguered chief of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, on Friday, claimed that the ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act’ was being ‘misused’ against him for by certain quarters for their vested interest.

He added that he along with the seers and saints of the country would force the government to change it. His remarks came in the wake of the registration of two FIRs including one under the POCSO Act by Delhi Police for allegedly harassing women wrestlers. While reviewing the preparedness for his proposed Jan Chetan Rally in Ayodhya on June 5, BJP MP, in Bahraich, alleged that the POCSO Act was being misused at a large scale to settle personal scores. He claimed that even officials, seer, saints and public figures were not immune to its misuse.

“Its misuse has devoured so many lives. Former US president Donald Trump did not survive such allegations, so many saints have committed suicide because of this,” he said adding that POCSO Act was passed in the Parliament during Manmohan Singh’s government and at that time late Mulayam Singh Yadav opposed it fearing its misuse. “Under the leadership of seers, we will force the government to change the (POCSO) law. The law was brought by the Congress government without examining its various aspects,” said the BJP MP in Bahraich.

Country’s top grapplers, including Vinesh Phogat and Olympian Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, have been staging protests at Jantar Mantar, demanding Singh’s arrest for the alleged sexual harassment of other women wrestlers.

Terming all the allegations levelled against him by the wrestlers as baseless, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh exhorted them to go the police with whatever evidence they had against him instead of “cooking up stories while sitting at Jantar Mantar.” ‘Seer, saints also not immune to misuse’  While reviewing the preparedness for his proposed Jan Chetan Rally in Ayodhya on June 5, the BJP MP, alleged that the POCSO Act was being misused at a large scale to settle personal scores.
