BHUBANESWAR:  A 10-member CBI team on Monday visited the Balasore train accident site and began its probe into the triple train crash, a Railway official said. ECoR's Khurda Road division DRM Rintesh Ray said that according to his information, the CBI probe has begun but the details were not immediately known.

The Railway Board on Sunday recommended a CBI probe into the accident. The Railways has ruled out driver error and system malfunctioning, indicating possible 'sabotage' and tampering of the electronic interlocking system. In connection with the recent train accident that took place at Odisha's Balasore last week, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Balasore Government Railway Police (GRP) station.

It has been reported that the case has been filed under the 337, 338, 304A (non-bailable) & 34 of the Indian Penal Code, which include charges of "deaths caused by negligence" and 153, 154 & 175 of the Railway Act, which includes charges of "endangering the safety of persons".
