MLA Kuldeep Sengar disqualified from UP House

LUCKNOW: Tainted Bangarmau MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been disqualified from Uttar Pradesh Assembly following his conviction in a rape case by a Delhi court. Sengar’s constituency Bangarmau falls in Unnao district and the MLA had represented it in Assembly for four terms from almost all the parties.

In the 2017 assembly elections, Sengar had been elected from Bangarmau on the BJP ticket. However, following his complicity in the Unnao rape case, he was expelled by the party in August 2019. Currently, he is serving a life term at Tihar.

As per a notification issued by Principal Secretary, Vidhan Sabha, Pradeep Kumar Dubey, Sengar’s membership will be considered over from the day of the announcement of his life sentence (December 20, 2019).

The Bangarmau assembly seat will now be considered vacant. The incident of rape came to light when the minor victim attempted self-immolation outside CM Yogi Adityanath’s official residence in Lucknow in April 2017.

Then the FIR against the perpetrators including Kuldeep Sengar, his acquaintance Shashi Singh, her son and Sengar’s brothers was lodged under the section of IPC pertaining to kidnapping and rape. The Unnao rape victim, who was burned alive by five men subsequently died at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. (THE NEW INDIAN EXPRESS)
